DISTRICT UPDATE: Due to the state guidelines for returning to in-person instruction, wearing a face mask or a face shield will be mandatory to attend school in Phase 4. The district has ordered enough cloth face masks to distribute one per student. However, it is recommended that students have extra face masks for the upcoming school year. Personal face masks worn by a student will need to comply with school dress codes.
The district is currently preparing accommodations that will make in-person instruction possible for this upcoming school year. This school year will certainly be different than any previous school year. As this summer continues, we will continue to communicate new developments and procedures.

A MESSAGE FROM WCUSD #348 SUPERINTENDENT, DR. BLEYER:

MCHS / MCJHS Updates
Awards Videos – A link to the videos for the Class of 2020 Awards Recognition and the Jr. High awards will be posted tomorrow evening, June 5, 2020, on the District #348 website (www.wabash348.com) as well as the WCUSD #348 Facebook page.
Drivers Education: Summer School & Behind the Wheel Training -- Great News! It was announced today that behind the wheel driving could resume given we meet certain criteria, including wearing a mask. Our driver’s education instructors are going to start driving tomorrow, starting with the oldest student working our way to getting caught up. You will be contacted by the instructor to set up times when your son or daughter is next on the list.
We can hold remote summer school driver’s education. We will just have to bring students in groups less than ten to take the permit test. The instructor will start contacting those on the list for summer driver’s education.
Summer School – We will not be offering credit recovery or in-person classes for junior high or high school students this summer. There are too many regulations and logistical issues to work through to provide meaningful instruction.
Grade Cards – Grade sheets were mailed out this week. If you think there is a mistake on a grade, please email Mr. Newkirk, at jnewkirk@wabash348.com, with the specific issue(s).
Textbooks – If you have a textbook or Chromebook that has not been turned in, please bring it to the school next week as we are starting to put those on the indebted list.
Yearbook – Yearbooks are still being edited with as much material as we could gather, given the circumstances. They are scheduled to be available for distribution in August.

The awards recognition videos for both Jr. High and High School Seniors are currently in the editing process. We will post the link to the video on Friday, June 5th. This link will be posted on the District's website (www.wabash348.com) as well as the District 348 Facebook page. That link will take viewers to YouTube where the video can be watched. We appreciate your patience through these unprecedented times are are excited for our students to be recognized for the many accomplishments and honors they deserve.

Prom message follow up: While we are planning on hosting Prom on August 4th, keep in mind there are no guarantees that it will come to fruition. We want to caution you on spending time and money on items for the Prom based on a date that we are hoping for but cannot guarantee at this time.

The 2020 Mt. Carmel High School Prom will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, from 8:00-11:00 pm. The dance will be at the Anderson Building, on the Wabash County 4H Fairgrounds. This date and location offered the best opportunity to hold as close to a traditional Prom as possible. Details such as ticket sales, walkthrough, and after prom will be released at a later date

A MEMO FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Tonight, Friday April 17, Wabash CUSD #348 will be joining IHSA schools throughout Illinois and will turn on their athletic lights as a part of #LightsForTheFight to show support for our senior students, as well as for all the healthcare workers, first responders, & all other essential workers on the frontlines of the pandemic. Athletic Complex lights up at 8:20 (20:20 military time) for 20 minutes. Go Aces!

Congratulations to Mr. Michael Gordon, English Teacher at MCHS!! Mr. Gordon was the recipient of a Claes Nobel Education of Distinction Award by The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). He is recognized among educators for outstanding efforts in supporting and growing both the academic and personal successes of students to make a positive impact in the global community. We are so proud and grateful to have his talents in our school district.

A MEMO FROM THE MCHS PROM COMMITTEE:
The Mt. Carmel High School Prom has officially been postponed from its original date of May 2, 2020. This decision comes regardless of any updates to the Governor’s stay-at-home directive that currently runs through the month of April. We have every intention of holding the dance and associated events at a later date, likely in June or July. When the decision is made, there will be ample time between then and the new date to make preparations including getting fitted for a tuxedo, ordering flowers, and other tasks that require lead time, communication, and planning.
