Parent/Teacher Conferences for MCJHS are Tuesday, March 21 from 4:30-7:00pm and Thursday, March 23 from 4:00-6:00pm. Please call the school to set up a conference with your child's teacher. Press Release: Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) In March of every year, The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) sponsors “Music in Our Schools Month.” To celebrate MIOSM, the Wabash 348 schools would like to highlight the following music department events coming up this month: Saturday, March 18th We are hosting the Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) District 4 Solo & Ensemble Contest with 56 entries from Wabash 348 grades 5-8 along with around 200 entries from schools from around the area. It will be held at Mt. Carmel Grade School. Saturday, March 25th the Jr. High Band & Choir will be participating in the IGSMA District Organizational Contest at Casey Middle School in Mt. Vernon, IL. This performance is free and open to the public. Congratulations to our 8th Grade and 7th Grade Volleyball Teams on being the 2023 Conference Champions!

All 8th grade students will participate in the Illinois Science Assessment on March 15-17 during their regularly scheduled Science class. Attendance and punctuality are important for these assessments. Please ensure that your child is present and on time. Students will need to bring a fully-charged Chromebook and earbuds that are not wireless each day for testing. If you have any questions, please contact Sarah Morris at 618-262-8886.

The Jr. High band performed music from "The Hunger Games" on Friday, March 10 for the 7th grade students and staff. The 7th graders in Mrs. Vaught's class just finished reading the book and the band students performed the music as part of a cross-curricular project. Student teacher, Miss Presley Walker, directed them. Mrs. Ellen Wall is the band director.

The Mt. Carmel Jr. High Scholastic Bowl team traveled to Albion for their first games of the season. They got two wins against very good teams from Albion and Geff. Winning toss-up questions were Hazel Earnest (10), Aubren Hockgeiger (6), and Wyatt Rooney (1). This is a very polite, fun, and smart group of students! They represent MCJHS very well! Great job!

Junior High Spring Pictures are coming up next week on Thursday morning (3/9/2023). Proofs for ordering will be sent after the picture day, so no pre-ordering is required. Feel free to reach out to the office with any questions.

Timberlake Furniture is making a donation to pay for admittance for any Mt. Carmel Jr High student who wants to attend the High School Regional Championship game on Friday night in Lawrenceville! Mobile Food Distribution March 2

Tonight's 6th grade volleyball match against Grayville at Mt. Carmel Grade School has been cancelled. Tonight's match will now start with the 7th grade match at 6:00pm and the 8th grade match to follow.

MCJHS SLC is sponsoring a Canned Food Drive to benefit WADI. The grade level that brings in the most cans will win a donut party! Students can bring cans in until Thursday of this week.

For our upcoming Valentine’s Day on February 14th, we realize that some parents want to give their child a Valentine gift. While we encourage you to give your gift outside of school hours, MCJSH will provide an opportunity for students to receive deliveries for Valentine’s Day at school. All items delivered or dropped off will be picked up by your student at dismissal as they leave the building. We ask that if you plan to personally drop off an item, please have it here at the building by 2:00 and labeled with your child’s name, grade level, and last period teacher.

Congratulations to our Girls Basketball team for winning the Regional Championship this weekend! They will advance to the SIJHSAA State Tournament at Rend Lake College on Saturday, January 21st where they will take on Wolf Branch at 12:00pm. Go Jr Lady Aces!

Junior High Volleyball Tryouts will be TODAY at Mt. Carmel Grade School from 3:20-5:20. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls wanting to try out for volleyball need to be there. The second day of tryouts will be on Saturday, December 17th from 10:00am-12:00pm at Mt. Carmel Grade School. Everybody needs to attend BOTH days of tryouts. Each grade needs to wear a color coordinating shirt: 6th grade-white or grey. 7th grade-maroon. 8th grade-black.

Great news!!! Our school just received two new bottle fillers as a part of the H2O on the Go grant from the Delta Dental Foundation of Illinois and Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation. The purpose of the grant is to prevent tooth decay, which is the leading chronic disease among children. The water bottle-filling stations encourage consumption, helping lessen tooth decay, aiding in reducing obesity, increasing energy levels and improving students’ attention span and ability to learn. As a part of the grant, each student had the opportunity to get a Green Reusable Bottle and a toothbrush. As you can see from one of the photos, one student took the opportunity to use the new toothbrush. It was great to see how many students were using the water bottle and one student simply said, "The bottle and the bottle filler makes drinking water so convenient."

The Mt. Carmel Junior High Boys Basketball game scheduled for tonight at home against North Posey has been CANCELLED due to too many players sick and not in school today. This game will not be rescheduled.

The 7th grade boys basketball team will host a 7th grade tournament at Mt. Carmel Grade School on Saturday, December 3rd. Mt. Carmel will play Grayville at 9:00am. Albion will play Owensville at 10:30am. 3rd place game at 12:30pm. Championship game at 2:00pm.
