Graduation update: We have been looking through various forecasts and the chance for showers looks to be in the 60-75% range during tomorrow morning's scheduled time. While we do not want to postpone prematurely, we do want to provide everyone a chance to adjust their plans. Additionally, the audio/visual and photography equipment set-up and tear down is not a quick process and cannot get wet. For these reasons, we are postponing tomorrow's 9:30 am ceremony until the first rain out time of 6:30 pm, Saturday. We realize the forecast is not looking good for that time either but if we move it directly to Sunday, it only leaves us with the one shot to hold the ceremony. The decision on the Saturday evening event will be determined by 1:00, tomorrow afternoon.

Graduation practice for the Class of 2020 will be held Thursday July 30, at 7:00 pm, on the high school track. This practice is mandatory for those students wishing to participate in the ceremony. For the ceremony: (1) Pictures will be taken by Amanda Macer, of Aly Mae Images. There will be on of the graduate walking across the stage as well as a posed shot on the track. (2) There will be a live stream set up but we are still working on the format and will share the link as soon as it is set up. (3) Unfortunately, like football games, we do not have a good set up for those with limited mobility. Due to the potential demand and lack of availability, we cannot reserve handicap seating. (4) As mentioned in the prior release, we really need to limit guests so that we can offer a safe ceremony for our graduates and parents. Our goal from last Spring has been to offer an in-person ceremony. Families bringing too many guests may be the one thing that could still prevent the ceremony from proceeding.

Registration Announcement
We are pleased to announce the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony is still on -- with a change of venue and time. After multiple Graduation Planning Committee meetings (consisting of admin, parents, teachers, 2020 graduates, an Alumni Assoc. member, and a community leader) we are going to hold the ceremony at Riverview Stadium, at 9:30 am, Saturday, August 1. This will allow for the intended goal of holding an in-person event while still being able to adhere to IDPH recommendations. The students will be socially distanced, in chairs, on the home sideline while guests are welcome to sit on the stadium. We ask that your family group distance from other family groups and wear a mask where this is not possible. Our estimates indicate that if each graduate's family limits its attendance to 4-6 people, we can successfully distance multiple groups of fifty on the stadium. We ask that spectators park upstairs while the graduates park downstairs, inside the gate. Additionally, spectators will not be allowed on or inside the the track and there will not be seating set up downstairs. We have set rainout times of 6:30 pm that same night and 6:30 pm the following day if it is raining all day Saturday. The graduates will receive additional details through their school email accounts. If you have specific questions, please direct them to Principal Newkirk, at jnewkirk@wabash348.com.

We regret to inform that the 2020 MCHS Prom and associated events are cancelled. We looked at every avenue, within the Phase 4 Guidelines, but could not come up with a viable solution for a school-sponsored dance that typically hosts around 300 students. Keep in mind that if another group sets up an alternate or replacement event, it would not be sponsored by Mt. Carmel High School or Wabash CUSD #348.

DISTRICT UPDATE: Due to the state guidelines for returning to in-person instruction, wearing a face mask or a face shield will be mandatory to attend school in Phase 4. The district has ordered enough cloth face masks to distribute one per student. However, it is recommended that students have extra face masks for the upcoming school year. Personal face masks worn by a student will need to comply with school dress codes. The district is currently preparing accommodations that will make in-person instruction possible for this upcoming school year. This school year will certainly be different than any previous school year. As this summer continues, we will continue to communicate new developments and procedures.

MCHS / MCJHS Updates Awards Videos – A link to the videos for the Class of 2020 Awards Recognition and the Jr. High awards will be posted tomorrow evening, June 5, 2020, on the District #348 website (www.wabash348.com) as well as the WCUSD #348 Facebook page. Drivers Education: Summer School & Behind the Wheel Training -- Great News! It was announced today that behind the wheel driving could resume given we meet certain criteria, including wearing a mask. Our driver’s education instructors are going to start driving tomorrow, starting with the oldest student working our way to getting caught up. You will be contacted by the instructor to set up times when your son or daughter is next on the list. We can hold remote summer school driver’s education. We will just have to bring students in groups less than ten to take the permit test. The instructor will start contacting those on the list for summer driver’s education. Summer School – We will not be offering credit recovery or in-person classes for junior high or high school students this summer. There are too many regulations and logistical issues to work through to provide meaningful instruction. Grade Cards – Grade sheets were mailed out this week. If you think there is a mistake on a grade, please email Mr. Newkirk, at jnewkirk@wabash348.com, with the specific issue(s). Textbooks – If you have a textbook or Chromebook that has not been turned in, please bring it to the school next week as we are starting to put those on the indebted list. Yearbook – Yearbooks are still being edited with as much material as we could gather, given the circumstances. They are scheduled to be available for distribution in August.
