Preschool for All will be conducting preschool screenings for birth to 5 year old children who are not yet enrolled in public schools and who are not kindergarten eligible. The screening checks each child’s progress in hearing, vision, speech, language, and coordination skills. This will give parents a better idea of how their child is progressing at this very young age before he/she begins school. This screening program is free and parents will receive immediate feedback on how their child is developing. Head Start personnel may also be present to explain their program and services. Preschool Screenings will be held on September 8th, 9th, and 10th. The screening procedure takes about 45 minutes, and appointments must be made so that children do not have a long wait period. Parents should call 618-262-4623 to make an appointment or to get more information. Remember! The service is a free check of your child’s progress in the developmental areas, but appointments are needed. Please call today to make an appointment for your preschooler.

As we get closer to the reopening of the 2020-21 school year, we are rapidly preparing for both in-person and remote instruction. This has been a huge undertaking considering our current conditions. Those that have chosen in-person instruction will expect to see a cautious approach to what used to be a normal school year. Although the precautions will be unfamiliar, we are committed to keeping everyone as safe as possible. As the school year progresses, we will be able to ascertain our procedures and reformat them to better address the needs of the students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. Remote learning is also available to our students. Under the District Reopening Plan that is on the district website, you will see the stipulations necessary to opt for remote learning. As for the instructional approach, the teachers will be in charge of the type of remote approach for their students. Currently, the teachers use a multitude of platforms such as Google Classroom, Khan Academy and SeeSaw. These platforms will, generally, be the main source of information/communication for the remote learners courses with information such as, lessons, assignments, due dates, etc. Teachers will be using communication platforms such as Remind, Bloomz, the school website, and email with their remote learning students about the specifics of their remote classrooms. Additionally, as the year progresses, teachers may utilize developing technology to enhance their lesson capabilities. Either way you decide for your child, registration is mandatory to receive instruction from Wabash CUSD #348. Registration information is located on the website, and you may call the school offices for any help. I know this is a time of uncertainty for our community, but I can assure you that District #348 will do everything in its power to provide a quality and rounded education for our students while offering numerous extracurricular activities. This commitment will be unwavering throughout these difficult times.

It will not be long until school registration begins so MCES wanted to let parents know a couple of things they will need in order for the Kindergarten children to register. First you will need a LUMEN code. If your child was in Pre-School for All (behind district office-code didn't change) or if you filled in the short registration form; your LUMEN codes have been emailed. Please check the email account that you had in your registration information. If you did not receive a code, the MCES office will be open starting on Monday, July 27th, please contact the office and they will be able to help you. Second, the registration is locked until a child's physical is turned in. If you wish to drop off your child's completed physical in the drop box in the front of the school, the nurse said that is o.k. She will go through them as they come in and unlock your accounts when it is time. We will also need a copy of your child's birth certificate and a copy of their social security card. If you have copies or need us to make a copy, please come by the office the week of July 27, ring the bell and someone will come to the door to assist you. Looking forward to working with you and your children - Mrs. Odom

DISTRICT UPDATE: Due to the state guidelines for returning to in-person instruction, wearing a face mask or a face shield will be mandatory to attend school in Phase 4. The district has ordered enough cloth face masks to distribute one per student. However, it is recommended that students have extra face masks for the upcoming school year. Personal face masks worn by a student will need to comply with school dress codes. The district is currently preparing accommodations that will make in-person instruction possible for this upcoming school year. This school year will certainly be different than any previous school year. As this summer continues, we will continue to communicate new developments and procedures.

Reopening Letter from Superintendent
MCES office will be closing next Tuesday, June 30, until August 1st. If you have a child that has not been in the Wabash CUSD school system and they are starting Kindergarten, it is very important that they be entered into the system. The process is very easy, just fill in the one page paper in the maroon cart in front of the school. Then return it to the cart in the return section. Then in July when the on-line registration system begins, you will be emailed your LUMEN code so you can register your child. Please remember that all Kindergartners must have a physical before they will be allowed to register. Physical forms are also in the maroon cart. If you have questions, call the school at 618-263-3876 between 9 - 2. Please leave a message and I will return your call. Thank you, Mrs. Odom

The custodians have been working hard this summer to make MCES clean and look exceptional. They have been working on the flower beds in front of the school. They removed all of the old flowers that were not producing and added new perennials and mulch. Thank you very much for the new look.

MCES Kindergarten Pre-Registration forms and physicals are located in the maroon cart in front of MCES. If your child is going to be attending WCUSD #348 in the fall, please stop by MCES and fill in the short registration form and place it in the return slot. Also pick up the Kindergarten physicals and immunization packet. During the summer, you will receive a LUMEN code so you can register your child for Kindergarten. Without the code you will not be able to register your child. Return physical forms to office as soon as you have them completed. Also, 2nd grade dental forms are in the cabinet (pull hard, not locked). If your child attends Pre-K or EC at Wabash CUSD 348 you should have already received the physical forms and you do not need to pre-register. Please fill free to ask questions and I will try to answer quickly. Mrs. Odom
